ARTS I THROUGH I TECHNOLOGY™
FREQUENTLY I ASKED I QUESTIONS
Kirkwood, Chesterfield, St. Peters in Missouri and Bellville in Illinois. Please check the Schedule page for dates, times and exact locations of the workshops.
The Creative Computer Workshops are designed as an introduction to arts through technology. The ideal participant is between the ages of 9 and 16, has a keen interest in the subject they are registering for and is very comfortable working on the computer. That's it. Since these are introductory workshops, if your 12 year old is posting YouTube tutorials on how to render and animate 3D alien creatures in Maya and writing code since he was 7 - these workshops are probably not right. Everybody else who loves gaming, animation, music, film and cartooning is welcome.
Every workshops is 45 minutes. Most other extra-curricular classes are just 1 hour. We feel this is not enough time to properly teach this sometimes, labor intensive, medium. For instance in the Film-Making Workshops and the Music Workshops it can take 20 minutes just to set-up equipment! We feel that 45 minutes is the proper time to not rush the workshops and teach at a patient, easy-going manner. Additionally, we get to know the participants and visa-versa.
A "session" consists of five workshops. We have workshop sessions throughout the school year. You register for one session or five workshops at the first workshop. If the participant is interested in continuing the workshops you pay another registration fee at the first workshop of NEXT session.
No. All computers, software and equipment is provided by the Creative Computer Workshops. If a participant has done some work in animation, video, music or cartooning why not burn them to a disc, put the name on the disc and give it to the instructor? It would help to show us what your child can (or cannot) do so that we may more effectively coach them..
The registration fee for 5 workshops is $150 per participant. That's only $30 per workshop. Workshop size is limited to 10 participants and space is extremely limited. Registration fees payable at Workshop 1 of each session. If you wish to take our workshops continously throughout the year (you are not required to do so) you pay only $150 every 5 weeks. We accept cash, check or credit cards.
Two reasons. 1. The economy stinks. 2. We want to ensure that the workshops are full. Our limit is 10 participants per workshop. That's how much it takes to pay for the classroom rental and pay the instructors. Nothing more. Creative Computer Workshops is a not-for-profit educational group. If we wanted to get rich we would move to New Jersey, dress silly and get our own reality show.
First, e-mail us and indicate what workshop you are interested in. Workshops are limited to 10 participants. Space fills up very, very quickly. Upon receiving your e-mail we will reserve a place in your name and reply with a Registration Form. Fill out the form and bring it along with your fee to the "Registration Day". If you decide that you do not want to be in the workshop before "Registration Day", please e-mail us. We will cancel your reservation and fill it with another participant on the Workshop Waiting List.
As every participant proceeds at their own pace, if you miss a workshop simply attend the next workshop. Every workshop has an Instructor's Assistant. The duty of the assistant is to work with the participant individually, catching them up on what they missed. You can also attend one of the other workshops that we offer (Kirkwood, Chesterfield, Saint Peters, Maryland Heights and Belleville) and then go back to your regular location the next week.
Every workshop is limited to 10 students. There is one instructor and one assistant per workshop.
Depends on the participant. We teach the basics and lay much needed groundwork before we move on to more complex software and techniques. Very, very simple games, animations, videos, songs or cartoons CAN be completed in five weeks. Obviously, learning more sophisticated techniques will take several workshops. That why the workshops are ongoing. If participant's enjoyed what they learned in their first session, they are welcome to register for other sessions throughout the school year.
Space permitting, parents are always welcome to observe the workshops. We, frankly, do not understand why a parent would want to. You have 90 minutes without your child. Have fun. Shop. Take a nap. If you REALLY wish to observe the workshops we have two rules: 1. Parents do not assist their child. We find sometimes, however well-meaning, the parent will actually hinder rather than help. 2. Please turn your cellphone off. You want to see a angry instructor? Talk on your cell phone during a workshop.
